Dance Arts Centre Presents:
Dance with Courage
Over the last 11 years, Dance Arts Centre has teamed up with True Friends, to host our annual Dance With Courage event, raising over $190,000. We are excited to announce for our 11th Anniversary will be participating in a Dance Marathon.
True Friends is a non-profit organization focused on the mission of providing life-changing experiences that enhance independence and self-esteem for children and adults with disabilities. Dance Arts Centre remains focused on teaching our dancers the important values of working together, leading by example, maintaining deep values of social responsibility and giving back to our community, which make our partnership a perfect match!
Dance with Courage Impact:
At first glance, Ben looks like a typical 10 year old boy who enjoys climbing trees, playing sports, and fishing. He is a 4th grader at Saint Michael, where he is active in hockey, football, and Cub Scouts. Yet "typical" does not adequately describe him. Ben has severe Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which reduces his ability to focus, limits his impulse control, and impairs his understanding of social conventions. With the help of doctors, therapists, teachers, coaches, and counselors, Ben is learning to turn these hindrances into super powers. At Camp ADDventure, "Ben gets to be Ben" and share experiences with other kids just like him. Whether singing his favorite Queen song in the talent show or spending time with the sled dogs, Ben feels confident and safe to have the adventures that would otherwise not be possible without True Friends.
